The adults storyline wasn't as interesting or engaging. Fortunately, that's not the main focus of the movie

Apart from that, I really enjoyed this film. The cinematography and cold color palette works so well with this story, and the 2 leads' performances and chemistry are great. The character development is wonderful

    David Byrne's American Utopia

I feel people will eventually compare this to Stop Making Sense, but it would be unfair, considering they're 2 different works of art. Yeah, they're both shows featuring David Byrne, but this feels more personal to him. This also made me appreciate Byrne a lot more. He's a brilliant musician and songwriter.

This is also a great Spike Lee joint, and a worthy addition to his filmography. After watching the Hell You Talmbout sequence, I understood why he directed this

The writing was good and the overall performances of the cast were strong (The highlights, to me, were Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Frank Langella, Mark Rylance and Sacha Baron Cohen). The directing, however, is not as strong as those other aspects. I thought the final scene was a little cheesy

This film feels both dated and timely at the same time

EDIT: the more I think about it, the less I like it. The script is cheesier and cornier than I thought. I believe Sorkin’s writing work depending on the director, and Sorkin is not a director, but a writer

    I'm conflicted

The special effects, action sequences (That opening scene!) and editing are all so great. Ludwig Göransson's score is superb and epic. One of my favorite blockbuster scores of recent years. It's up there with Zimmer's best scores

My problem with this film is the script. The story is so convoluted and confusing. It tries so hard to be smart. The actors try their best, but the characters feel bland and boring

Overall, it's a very flawed (mainly due to the screenplay) but enjoyable film. It's not perfect, but it has elements to appreciate
