The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

This movie slowly sapped my willpower to live…

This trilogy is riddled with both greatness and failure. With the first movie starting out with such potential but it all slowly fell downhill. It really did have potential and I still love it’s intended purpose but boy did it fall apart in this last movie. I understand Peter Jackson was trying to match the tempo and the pacing of the original LOTR trilogy but it’s main problem was the lack of storyline there was to match that tempo. Which is why it started great, introducing characters who’s legend we had only heard of and growing stronger relationships with characters we were already familiar with. But when the Smaug storyline started to pick up it all came crashing down, with Smaug’s character being irritably useless, and milking simple dumb storylines like Thorin and the “dRaGoN sIcKnEsS” while they wait for the rest of their plot to catch up. Overall it really leaves a bittersweet taste in your mouth, it has its good parts and it has its bad, the main problem with that is the worst part is final part so it really unravels all it had built up to. Regardless I think this series being either good or bad is really up in the air depending on your perspective. But I do think it works very well as an underwhelming introduction to one of the greatest series’ of all time: LOTR, especially to show someone who has never seen the series before.
