Annette ★★★★

The way the public has swept this widely imaginative and gorgeously composed musical film under the rug just to put focus on such mediocrity like Cinderella and Dear Evan Hansen—often just to dump on them anyway—is insulting. Annette isn’t just a wonderful film with equally wonderful music written by the band Sparks of all people, but it’s also rich in symbolic meaning and makes usage of the film medium with such creativity that I haven’t seen since a Wachowski film. Perhaps a rewatch might convince me to give it a higher score, but all in all, it’s terrific and electrifying. More musicals like this please, Hollywood.
