Shin Godzilla

Shin Godzilla ★★★★½

Acting Prime Minister Yusuki Satomi: “The noodles got soggy. I knew this job wouldn’t be easy.”

Wow, this slayed.

A near prophetic look into governmental incompetence, in the wake of COVID-19, Hideaki Anno’s Shin Godzilla is a force to be reckoned with. It’s not only hauntingly scary with the most disturbing portrayal of Godzilla I think we’ve ever gotten, but it also works phenomenally as a fast-paced political satire about a ragtag group of analysts frantically trying to get through to the closed-minded and selfish higher-ups about the threat of absolute annihilation. It’s everything I could ever dream of wanting in a Godzilla film. Everybody say, “Thank you, Hideaki Anno.”
