Rod Sedgwick’s review published on Letterboxd:
''I have no time for lies. I want the truth!''
Just another example of Kurosawa's masterful storytelling and directorial style. A brilliantly staged chamber piece that turns into a frenetic police procedural in its second half, with the Japanese class system exploration set-up literally in the film’s title - Mifune as King(o) in his castle perched 'high' above the 'low' level social strata that exists in its shadow. The moral quandary at play, the performances and the visual storytelling are the stuff of cinematic dreams and the film is gripping all the way. One of A.K.'s very best films
