The Fly

The Fly ★★★★★

''What am I working on? Uhh... I'm working on something that will change the world, and human life as we know it.''

Ahhhh what to say about this perfect marriage of Cronenberg's style and themes into one glorious union of romance, tragedy, horror and humour all with a poignant vomit soaked cherry on top. As perfect as a reimagining of an earlier film as one could hope, even on par with John Carpenter's The Thing, with two wonderful performances from its leads in Goldblum and Davis who were romantically attached at the time. Cronenberg in the (dead) zone here, able to inject his unique sensibilities into a slightly more mainstream affair, but also managing to deliver a film so tight, so focused and so re-watchable that it ultimately seems to be the text book on how to make a perfect film. Now please excuse me while I go and give birth to a giant maggot...
