This movie dug up everything I had burried, but I’m so glad I did. I miss my grandma everyday
Nobody warned me that I would have nightmares.... Boots Riley has a haunting imagination, one that looks fresh and new on the big screen and that also isn't afraid to tackle bizarre, complex, or controversial ideas. I love movies that leave me speechless, but I think Sorry To Bother You left me mute out of fear, not love.
I had a really hard time emotionally connecting with this movie. I can't decide what part felt so distant to me, all I know is that I'm frustrated(?) that I didn't have the reaction that I expected.
Maybe all of the hype of this movie put me in the wrong mindset going in, but that seems like a cop out answer. I feel liked I missed all the incredible nuance of this film. Fortunately, the cinematography is this film was NOT nuanced in its beauty, and made my confusing 2+ hours still beautiful to struggle with.
Will be watching again.
