An exceptional display of repression, jealousy, and the prison that is masculinity and authority, showing just how fragile these things truly are, and how men can truly only enjoy themselves and create art when they shed these chains and just completely let loose.

Isn't it kinda crazy how female directors are so good at exploring masculinity while very few male directors can manage to do anything interesting with femininity?

Mikey and Nicky are so clearly terrible people and have such an extremely toxic friendship, yet Peter Falk and John Cassavetes' performances along with Elaine May's direction and script do such a good job of showing that there is a lot of history and love in their relationship that cannot just be cut off. It was a tiny bit bloated and a couple of the jokes were a little corny, but this movie is just really sweet and insanely funny. I'm probably gonna end up going through this movie frame by frame to find all the obscure movie references but for now I think my favourite is one of Katie's video titled "Portrait of an Idiot on Fire." And of course the visuals are so incredible and stunning. I love it when a movie…

One the one hand I want Joseph Gordon Levitt to never again play a character where he has to change his voice in some way because he always goes super over the top with it so that I can never take anything he says seriously and it ends up hurting what ever movie he is in. But on the other hand, sometimes it ends up like in this movie where he takes his bad Italian-American accent so far that it makes almost every single thing he says just absolutely hilarious in a completely unintentional way.
