Roman Arbisi’s review published on Letterboxd:
One of the best films I've ever seen. One of the best films of our time. One of the single greatest achievements in screenwriting, acting, and direction. A tour de force of romantic cinema with two of the most perfectly flawed characters to ever grace the screen.
Being someone that found Before Sunrise to be enjoyable despite some impracticality in the dialogue, and thoroughly enjoying Before Sunset, I put off Midnight for a while because I was nervous. This was the most beloved of the trilogy and I was nervous I wouldn't enjoy it because I've been so-so on the films leading up to it.
With news of a possible fourth film from Linklater, Hawke, and Delpy I decided that now was the time to dive into Before Midnight. Unironically enough I started this film right at midnight and my heart is soaring, aching, and my eyes welling at 2 am because this movie is surreal. I simply cannot speak for a film that can only speak for itself. Through it's natural chemistry and cinematography I found myself stunned at how moving of a motion picture Before Midnight is. It's hard to find a trilogy that gets better with each film but the Before trilogy manages to do just that.
Definitely gonna give Sunrise another go in the near future and I can't wait to experience these with my girlfriend.
Before Midnight gets a 100/100
