Rosie’s review published on Letterboxd:
This black and white psychological mystery thriller is a horrifying tale of two men’s descent into madness. Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe star as Winslow and Wake, two lighthouse keepers slowly lose their minds trying to survive living in the middle of nowhere uncanny 18th century New England. Dafoe was excellent and Pattinson continues to surprise me with his range (my recent watch Maps to the Stars and The King). It’s a bleak and vulgar arthouse feature, challenging to consume with its narrative ambiguity. There were frustrating moments where it feels repetitive, taking its time to get to where it needed to go, not only driving each other to insanity, I was heading there myself. The ending was harshly unpleasant but profound. It’s a tension-filled and utterly gripping film.
