I first saw this in theaters and it left an instant impression on me. After a re-watch, I'm happy to say it's just as good as I remember.
There's so much to like: the precise inhuman choreography, the futuristic aesthetic, and the competing ideologies of man vs. machine and reality vs. dream. Further, unlike most revenge films, our protagonist isn't out for blood, at least not immediately.
"I'm not looking to restart my life; I'm looking for the off switch."
Grey isn't some homicidal maniac whose bloodlust is justified by his wife's murder. Instead, he's an ordinary man who is pushed to extraordinary lengths by circumstances beyond his control.
