Mamma Mia!

Mamma Mia! ★★★

The epitome of poptimism, maybe to its fault as a proper cinematic production, but so unabashedly sunny, frivolous and competent at making the most fun out of the one-band jukebox concept for its core audience that it feels specially pointless to critique. At the risk of contradicting myself, I'll say that this is the classic example of a musical that perhaps would be better done entirely in song than clumsily going in and out of the numbers while it stumbles on the narrative structure and pacing. It's certainly fun, though, and anyone that argues otherwise is a cop.
