Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping

Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping ★★★½

2016

Hysterically topical, eminently quotable, with glorious cameos left and right, a handful of hilariously catchy songs and also a sense of true concern for its deeply silly central character that keeps the movie endlessly watchable even when the comedy gets slightly sidelined in the final third. Pointing out that its mainly structured exactly like SNL sketches is attesting the obvious, but that typical format of repeating the same joke over and over hoping that would make it funnier, it's utilized sparsely and to great results. Tim Meadows is low key the MVP here, with all the "CMZ" crew and Justin Timberlake as the runner-ups.

International Audiences™ get shit for being the reason countless unnecessary sequels and remakes continue to get green lighted by studios, however Americans aren't quite doing a good job to support the right projects too.
