Scream 2

Scream 2 ★★★½

Not quite the wildly entertaining meditation on violence, and how it is portrayed in different mediums, through the subversion of horror tropes and mature exploration of a character permanently scarred by suburban America's thirst for blood of the the first one, but still with tongue-in-cheek metatextual jokes, wonderfully idiosyncratic performances and just glorious late 90's cheese to ignore. Multiple times, Craven seems comfortable settling to do the same exact type of movies it relentlessly makes fun of, but he does it so goddamn well, with several set pieces crafted to perfection, that doesn't hurt the overall product as much.
