”Have you ever heard of insect politics?”
It is somewhat odd that I found “The Fly” (1986) to be more frightening than ever. I assumed that as we got older, we would tendentially become more indifferent towards gore. My assumption might have been wrong. Although, I would argue that its timeless success as a horror experience has something to do with the practical effects. The most accomplished computer-generated visual effects could not excel this make-up masterwork. It is true that there are moments in which you can discern that Goldblum is wearing a full-sized make-up suit, but there is something about the physicality of the special-effects that make the bodily metamorphosis profoundly disturbing.
