Suspiria

Suspiria ★★★★

Felt like a sequel to the original rather than a remake. My experience of this was definitely benefitted having seen the original, at least. I loved the differences between the two, how this one unashamedly commits to its central conceit where Argento kept it more of a mystery. The dance sequences are a marvel, and Act 6 is astonishing. I thought the performances were excellent from Tilda Swinton and Dakota Johnson, Thom Yorke’s soundtrack was sadly underused, though one song is a certified stunner. I’m not sure I entirely needed Josef’s subplot. I was far more interested in everything going on with Susie than anything else. Still, what an experience.
