    Amityville: A New Generation

Who would have thought that the man who made Santa With Muscles would also make a ridiculous yet fun entry into the Amityville canon. Elevated by the performance of Terry O’Quinn, this movie strangely plays precursor to the cheesy yet effective gimmicks of RL Stines Say Cheese and Die and Gilroys Velvet Buzzsaw. Throw those in a blender with that weird era of the 90’s sitcoms where everyone’s neighbors just walked into each other’s apartments and you’ve got Amityville: A New Generation. Bonus points for a Lin Shaye appearance.

It’s not good by any means but I’m such a sucker for these mid-90’s horror movies that truly only existed for that four to five year batch before the new millennium. Before the Scream slasher craze, these mid level production quality movies just captured an aesthetic of the 90’s that’s charming in some stupid way. This movie is basically a little bit Leprechaun and a whole lot of House with a dash of good ol’ stepmom fetishism for flavor.

    There's Someone Inside Your House

Yet another fantastic slasher in the midst of our full-blown renaissance, Patrick Brice's There's Someone Inside Your House takes the conventions of our favorite 90's teen screams (leaning heavily on the conceit of I Know What You Did Last Summer) and modernizes it. Brice manages to contemporize the trappings of the post-Scream thriller without ever inducing the eye rolls of some earlier attempts to capture that same Craven-Williamson magic. Visceral and bloody kills abound with a likable cast and although the ending drifts into some by-the-numbers killer whodunnitism's, There's Some Inside Your House is an absolute bop of a slasher.

Fuck yeah. Give me all of these browser horror movies. I'm team "cybernatural." Especially the nostalgia throwback, shit is running on Windows '95. Point and click adventure game with dial-up era webcams. ALL ABOUT IT.

I would watch an Encarta horror movie at this point.
