This is so much different than I thought it was going to be, lol. It is very very good however and that Tangerine Dreams soundtrack is pure aces.
The direction is fantastic, the performances are great and the fights are very cool. However, the plot and dialog are very messy and leave a lot to be desired and the pacing is very all over the place, they're a lot of slow uninteresting parts in this. Maybe I'll like this more on rewatch, but for now, I'm left disappointed.
Clint Eastwood and Robert Duvall in a John Sturges directed movie written by Elmore Leonard. It sounds like that should make for a great movie, but unfortunately, this is very dull and half baked. Nobody is really putting in much effort here and it shows. This is easily Clints worst Western. It does have a good score by Lalo Schriffen and a couple cool moments, but it's definitely not enough to save it.
It has some solid animation, a great voice cast and it's very accurate to its source material, but that comes at a detriment if you've read the comic series like I have. It does pretty much nothing different from the comics, in fact, it keeps the same structure as the comic, which translates pretty weirdly from book to screen.
