Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel 2021
definitely could have just been like 40 minutes. lots of cringey fluff and weird sources
-
The Conjuring 2 2016
definitely lower on james wan’s totem pole of horror excellency - with a distinct feeling of christian propaganda? - but still belongs in the modern horror canon and showcases some of wan’s stronger signatures, including impressive play with focal points and panning

Bonnie and Clyde 1967
times were so crazy back then you could just really walk into a bank announce your identity and then rob it

The Guest 2014
my love:hate ratio with adam wingard’s filmography is like 20:80 but i miss the days where maika monroe was everywhere so watched out of nostalgia. one of my favorite action/thriller tropes is when the ambiguously trained assassin knocks out a full militia of armed men in bulletproof gear in like 5 minutes

Cool Hand Luke 1967
absolutely a new favorite of mine!! paul newman was born to play the messianic role of luke and the cinematography is gorgeous; the egg eating scene is probably one of my new favorite scenes of all time!! i do agree that it’s a little slow in the first half but i honestly don’t mind tbh paul newman can take all the screen time he neeeeeds babyyyyy

Phantom Thread 2017
nooo pta don't invert the power dynamics aha you're so sexyyy
also i saw someone talk about how the score is overbearing and i think that's kind of the point right because the whole thing is a little irreverent is it not? it's just like how alma is so aware of reynolds' fussiness and peculiarities, how he is almost an irreverent character in of himself, but she loves him anyways. and the end is really just genius

A Woman Under the Influence 1974
whewwww.....this movie is so astounding and i really don't think i'll ever watch it again or if i do i'll be more prepared. sure, times have changed, but being a woman and struggling with mental illness is still hard. people want to compartmentalize you into a palatable category – wife, daughter, girlfriend – and when they don't their frustrations reverberate throughout your life. there is little genuine understanding, just a rush for you to feel "better" – whatever that means – as quickly as…
