Sam Morrison’s review published on Letterboxd:
Why did it take me so long to get to this one? I don't have a good excuse but I hope this makes up for it. Into the Spiderverse is sensational.
Start by throwing every color and artistic style you have in your imagination, that is within your power, and you can come up with something that looked as tasty as this did. Especially in the third act. I thought I knew what beauty color could offer, until I saw this movie. Lord have mercy.
Finally, FINALLY we have a superhero film that completely nails the comic book look. Not only were the colors everything, the presentation of panels, thought bubbles, and dot shaded scenes made it the perfect vision of how a comic book movie can be.
One nitpick I can come up with (it's the only one and it's minor) is that it can be another "soundtrack" movie. Where they think every scene needs a licensed song to sell it properly. The music isn't bad, I just could have done without it, maybe have more original tracks.
Into the Spiderverse is groundbreaking because it illustrates exactly what directions we can take comic book films from now on. There is a world of potential, and it will only continue to grow. My heart beats so that I can watch the sequel and any other beautiful films of this caliber that come our way.
