Donnie Darko

Day 166 film 2
3rd rewatch, first watch for th directors cut. I have been meaning to watch this since I finished Richard Kelly’s filmography. So when I heard there was a directors cut have an extra 20 minutes of course I was all in, it also intrigued me even more so when I heard people actually didn’t like this version of the film. After seeing it there are things that this version improves upon the theatrical version and I’d go as far as to say this is the better version. I’m not gonna lie when I say tho they scene where the pages of the book “the Philosophy of time Travel” show up can sometimes take and sometimes add to the overall film. Keeping both versions in mind the film has always had some problems mainly being a few edits and like technical specs here and there but thos are quite honestly specs compares to what this movie accomplisments, being incredibly well written and incredibly thought provoking it’s no wonder for me and a whole ton of others. This is what got them to truly think movies can transend from being more then just popcorn blockbusters. The reason I think I think the director cut is the superb version of the film is quite honestly just because through this we get more of what Richard kelly truly wanted and as someone who’s favourite film is Southland Tales you can probably tell this would quite probably the better version of the two. And just excluding the screenplay for the time travel and core story but we simply focus and the normal aspects of them film kelly truly manages to get the human characters right from are mentally ill protagonist who honestly probably one of the best portrayal of a mentally ill person iv seen considering I know a person who is pretty much like this. As for everyone else there Portrayal as ther characters really felt like the had full of life and all had potential to be extremely awsome characters but from what we got, it was solid. Also this movie is pretty freaking funny which totally flew by my head the the first two viewings, probably due to actually how true to life the writing was. Extremely realistic at least to me as a teen at coming to the end of my highschool run. This is classic and I’m happy that this movie exist cause without it there would be know current me. SMART...FUNNY... MIND BOGGALING.

The only actual problem with the directors cut was the opening song switch....HOW COULD YOU SWICTH “THE KILLING MOON”.
WATCH THIS “SOUTHLAND TALES” AND “THE BOX”
