Everything Everywhere All at Once

Everything Everywhere All at Once ★★★★★

“Please be kind.”

I saw my family in this film. My family owns a small business, and I’ve seen how it can affect the mind, body, and relationships. And I’ve always tried to help my parents, despite feeling like my assistance will never be enough to alleviate the burdens and heal their pains. There are many “what ifs,” but we keep going even if we wish there were different multiverses or versions of us.

This was so creative and original, from the action to editing and effects to the writing that sprinkled pop culture references and used inanimate objects to carry meaning and purpose. The way life is communicated in this film is beautiful. It mastered “optimistic nihilism,” balancing a philosophical and honest tone and compassionate one, making me bawl and laugh at the same time. ABSOLUTELY love the batshit silliness and craziness of this film. Everything works in the film because it was not afraid. It was ambitious and chaotic but still made sense. And Michelle, you are perfect. Evelyn was made for you. Also the lines, “In another life, I would have really liked just doing laundry and taxes with you,” and “Of all the places I could be, I just want to be here with you.” ❤️

Can’t wait to revisit Everything Everywhere All at Once. It might even be the best film of the year already. I’ve never really seen anything like this that has so many layers, and I’m sure this film resonates with many. Almost everyone battles being many selves at once.

Thank you to The Daniels for reminding us of acceptance, finding strength in love, and having the will to keep fighting the bagel of doom in this messy life. Not everything is okay, and that’s okay. When bad things happen, good things are happening too. And sometimes it’s not in another universe but here. Insane and brilliant, this masterpiece speaks to the heart.
