The Mist

The Mist ★★★★½

An excellently crafted cauldron boiling over with elements of tragedy, the study of humanity, propensities of belief, and plenty of surprise developments. The scenario is tense enough already with a large number of people hiding in a grocery store from an undetermined emergency, and just ratchets up to an unbearable level as a zealot begins to feed fear and barbarism. Watching the cast of rational characters struggle to maneuver and keep the situation under control is riveting.

Yeah the CGI isn't top-of-the-line but the movie is so damn good your brain just goes along with it. This is a modern classic, and not just scary in the typical expected ways. Make sure you have something to brighten your mood after the credits roll....
