    A *bop* with BIG literary energy that is a “scary” movie like The Shining and Crimson Peak are “scary” movies. Leo c/w/shoulda won an Oscar for the lighthouse scene alone.

    I really wanted to love this one. 

    The reviews are middling, I thought. I’ll be a contrarian outlier, I thought. No. What I will say is that this is a good movie made badly. 

    A “later that night” sequel? Good. Blowing out the lens of the first film to include the town and its context? Awesome. Raising the stakes for characters certain to appear in the third movie? You must!

    First time I haven’t been able to assign a star rating. It’s a five-star body with one-star parts.

    In my opinion Bruce Campbell had exactly the career he earned and deserved. He’s too twitchy to be a leading mainstream man, but he’s too damn smart of an actor to ignore. Hes probably an amazing acting teacher, if he does that.
