Midsommar ★★½

So, why did this pointless remake of The Wicker Man need to be 147 minutes long?

Probably did myself no favors watching some Lucio Fulci before hitting up the theater — but then again, it’s not like Ari Aster’s pretentious ass did himself any favors either. On a technical level, it’s absolutely stellar. The daytime photography is shockingly gorgeous and it gets some nice juxtaposition whenever Aster remembers it’s supposed to be a horror film and occasionally throws in a macabre image. And the editing and sound design were sufficiently sharp. But narratively, it’s such an empty experience, and thematically, it’s just downright baffling.

Anyways, stay tuned for my full review on this thing for FilmFisher this weekend.
