Liz’s review published on Letterboxd:
Seeing this theatrically next weekend, but wanted to rewatch before the premiere. I'll probably write more then.
Three quick things, though:
1) I'm forever Team Fake Donna.
2) Sheryl Lee is, of course, incredible.
3) The sound design and lighting don't get enough credit -- the way that Lynch manipulates Badalamenti's score and Garcia uses strobes to push the already heightened melodrama to such an emotional extreme is just devastating. The use of flashlights to light the climactic murder is something straight out of the SOV playbook, but here, they make what's playing out on screen that much more unsettling.
