This is one of those movies I watched over and over as a kid, back when we had a small library of video tapes and that was it. I re-watch it every year or so and continue to enjoy it just as much as I did then.

I enjoyed it for what it is: a kids adventure film and not a buddy-comedy film. I was surprised at how little I laughed during the movie--the nods to the original film certainly made me smile and feel warm and fuzzy inside, but I couldn't escape the pervasive sadness much of the film the exuded rooted not only in Egon's death but his apparent abandonment of his daughter and friends. I've never felt so pandered to in my life. Not so much a bad film, as a deeply offensive film. I guess this is what it feels like to get old and get reamed from behind with your own nostalgia. No amount of self-awareness could have helped this film. And now the songs are in my head with even shittier people singing them. Please make it stop.

    Meanwhile, my wife loved it.

Self-indulgent, overlong, and filled with lackluster setpieces. At this point Tarantino has become almost Lucas-like in his inability to find creative restrictions to temper the flights of fancy that litter this basic "save the princess" narrative. The film ends with what seems to be becoming a new staple of Tarantino's: the revenge fantasy. In fact the film's flimsy narrative seems constructed to support an inevitable and predictable revenge setpiece.

On the plus side the actors are wonderful and there are…
