One of the most perfect and precise movies ever made (for my money). Perfectly cast, perfectly acted, perfectly scripted, perfectly shot, perfectly scored, perfectly paced, and the perfect balance of drama, action, humour, and feeling. Russel Crowe is the most Crowe-y he will ever be, and it is a pure delight to watch him bounce off of Bettany. The cunning on display, the courage, the fear, and the superstition all play off each other in just the right doses at just the right moments to keep the plot humming. A positively romantic adventure of the highest order. The pinnacle of the swashbuckling genre.
