Jaws

Jaws ★★★★★

35mm at The Brattle

Jaws as critique of late capitalism: business interests take precedence over human life. The water stays open even as patrons die.

This is the first time I've seen Jaws since my Asylum binge, and this should be obvious but I was struck most by how closely movies like Mega Shark vs Mecha Shark and Sharktopus adhere to the general structure and cinematic form of this movie.

Also, if you haven't seen them yet, check out these two great video essays on Spielberg that are both particularly relevant to Jaws: The Spielberg Face and The Spielberg Oner.
