Who am I to critique the master?
I have trouble for probably obvious reasons reviewing movies like this. I'm an expert neither in the classics of foreign film nor in the tradition of experimental cinema but I still had a fantastically fun time with this. It's a wonderfully psychoanalytic look at identity and desire and enjoyment in the most Lacanian senses of the terms and definitely brought me back to my time in film school. Also seems to have inspired some of my high school favorites like Fight Club as well as the more recent enigma of Enemy. Wish I hadn't waited so long so see this, hopefully now I'll have the confidence to check out the rest of Bergman's work before too long.
At the metatheatrical interruption of the film about halfway through I knew I was in love.
