This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

While watching this I couldn't help thinking how much better the effects looked than the original Godzilla... And then I realised that film is nine years older!

There is an air of "fuck it, they know what's up" when it comes to the storytelling. There's just enough stolen from Godzilla that audiences will immediately get on board with the silliness, and just enough unique quirks of its own to make Gamera a fun monster in his own right.

    Red Cliff Part II

    ★★★★

    TTD* - 4 minutes 15 seconds.

Maybe a little too lopsided with nearly 90 minutes devoted to tactical scheming, and replacing a lot of the character moments with goofy subplots that you can see the resolution of a mile away. But this is a John Woo movie, you know what you're getting into.

    Amazing!

I have to say, I've been left a little stunned by how good this actually is. I knew people liked it, but this went above and beyond my expectations. It doesn't help that I find the thought of watching yet another MCU movie completely exhausting. This has everything that's been missing from the live action movies of late. The fact that there actually feels like there are real stakes in a movie with an anime spider-girl and a talking…
