Lucas had a good visual sense even before Star Wars. I just wish Lucas weren't embarrassed by it.

Since the restoration seems to be the only available way to see it, I'm left with mid-2000's era CG work that feels a bit dated by today's standards and uncanny in the context of an early 70s film.

The added CGI feels even more unnecessary compared to his Star Wars films in that it obscures a sense of Lucas' development as a…

Immaculate. Still difficult to decide if this or The Insider is better.

The time may have passed, but it would be nice to get at least one more Pacino/Mann collaboration.

Paul Newman is so effortlessly cool here. Just drinking whiskeys and pool hustling while babysitting the cocky newcomer and his girlfriend.

Tom Cruise's performance feels like himself amped to 11. He laughs before every line, he (literally) does karate when his ball lands in the pocket, he's out of control. Could also be a Danny McBride character.

Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio just chilling along for the ride.

    Haven't seen The Hustler.

It's honestly worth it to see this in the theaters to be able to hear the audience's collective cringing from Mikey Saber's scummy behavior.

Definitely this year's Uncut Gems in that the Academy will snub Simon Rex. Hope I'm wrong, because Rex is superb in this (and to think he only had 3 days to prepare). His character is so laughably narcissistic and awful, you're kinda left wondering what else possibly could've happened to him leading to the beginning of the movie.

The whole ensemble was great as well. Baker really has a knack for casting.
