Tell me the story of us...Frances, we are going to take over the world

I’m so embarrassed, I’m not a real person yet.

    You guys are...like magic

-GOD I LOVE FRANCES- the sad modernist realism of baumbach and gerwigs writing and directing to me makes this film a modern classic that should be echoed throughout 21st century cinema.

Elizabeth Harmon is a total baddie, it’s almost as if she wasn’t written like a shallow fellow character that adheres to patriarchal tropes of masculine film society 🤔. YES, THE CHARACTER WAS WRITTEN HOW A MALE CHARACTER IS WRITTEN.

    - doesn’t define Elizabeth Harmon on her sexuality and relationship
    - doesn’t undermine elizabeth’s intelligence for the conventions of love, femininity or etc
    - allows for harmons pure passion of chess to be portrayed BY PRESENTING HERSELF AS A STRONG FEMINIST ICON and not undermining the character in order to propel another male character above herself

this made me into a huge wreck. the ending was beautifully sad and i’m still recovering from it. Eliza Scanlan was perfect, she was able to portray everything in a sad but realistic manner. The rest of the performances we just natural, specifically the mother.

I CANT BELIEVE THIS IS AN AUSTRALIAN FILM!!!!
