The Beach Boys: An American Family

    ★★

This gives me an opportunity to write about The Beach Boys who I’m fairly certain are my favourite band of all-time now. I had always loved their hits from hearing them when I was a kid, it was only last year that I actually dove into their discography. Sean Lennon described it as the most rewarding music experience and I tend to agree. They are mostly written off by music fans as a corny surf rock band which is ridiculously…

It’s rare that I come out of a cinema with positive energy but Paul Thomas Anderson’s newest film was a rare exception. Licorice Pizza was an immensely entertaining and human viewing experience. The cast were all incredible, playing their characters with integral humanity and relatability. Their solid performances are backed up by utterly immaculate direction by Anderson, this may well be the best work I’ve ever seen from him. Its atmosphere is so wholesome, bringing the seventies back with heartwarming…

    No Time to Die

Despite going into the midnight release really hyped to see how Craig’s tenure would wrap up, I came away thoroughly underwhelmed and disappointed  as a Bond fan. No Time To Die is not a Bond film, in fact it’s kind of an anti-Bond film. It completely forgoes the traditions and staples of the series all in the name of delivering something more “modern” and “emotional”. It doesn’t tick any of my boxes, all of the entertaining elements of previous entries…

    Spider-Man: Homecoming

Sanitised MCU garbage. Lacks everything that makes Spiderman interesting and turns him into an annoying little pipsqueak. The snarky humour in these films is so annoying, just utterly insufferable. Why did they turn Mary Jane into a smug asshole? Peter’s story doesn’t feel authentic or earned, he gets everything handed to him. This is completely counter to what makes Peter so compelling. The Sam Raimi trilogy were the perfect Spiderman adaptations. Fuck the MCU.
