The Lighthouse

The Lighthouse ★★★★

Wow, ok.

From a narrative standpoint, this movie is pretty much bullshit. Would’ve made for a very compelling short, but makes for an endurance test of a long. Robert Eggers night very well be trolling us.

But it’s not that simple, because every frame looks like an old, prize-winning photograph. Even if I’d absolutely despised it, it’d be undeniably one of the best looking films I’ve ever seen. Egger’s choice to use lenses from the early 1900s worked beautifully.

Additionally, Willem Defoe’s acting is incredible. Pattinson does well in his own right, but Willem is like a fucking freight train.

And even at its most incomprehensible, I found myself giggling at all the ridiculous, impenetrable mariner dialogue.
