Me, halfway through the movie: Is every character just a fucking ghost, memory, hallucination, or projection?!
Me at the end: Yep
There are a few cool parts, but it's clear Abrams wasn't interested in writing a script as much as showing off his ability to use Deus ex machina to resolve every conflict and having the greatest number of cameos and references to the old movies that they could fit.
Literally almost every character died or came back from the dead in some way in this, if not just through increasingly implausible retconning. It's ironic that all the characters live well beyond their deaths when the creators go to great lengths to include Carrie Fisher for almost no reason. There are plenty of shots of her just wordlessly reacting or saying vague things like, "No!" It feels like one those fake Weird Al interviews.
