But could he have won? Realistically speaking, could it have been possible for one to win? Clearly, he had a strategy to win: and his defeat was so pathetic. Death made a move and Antonius said, "I didn't see that", so passive and apathetic. Not devastated or joyous. And why would Death even play him for his life unless he too was apathetic to whether Antonius lived or died. The other lives were taken little to no consideration into before being taken. I know this is all metaphorical and lovely in all that ruminating Bergmanian wandering doom but I do wonder. Anyway. Probably unknowable, that's fine I guess.
