didn’t expect to enjoy this one as much as i did so i was pleasantly surprised. it was powerful, moving and depicted everyday life in iran + the effects of trauma in such an honest way. the acting was also brilliant on everyone’s part, but adnan afravian who played lil bashu ultimately stole the show. i think this film delivers a wonderful message that despite cultural differences and language barriers, we can always connect with others through love and emotion as they are universal languages.
i really spent the first thirty minutes of this film wondering when al pacino was going to come in only to later realise that he is, in fact, not in this film.... it was just a young robert de niro. i am officially boo boo the fool.
anyway, de niro's acting in this was absolutely phenomenal. i personally didn't find the story all that engaging, but i can appreciate it from an artistic point of view.
lara jean: “what do you put into a contract for a real relationship?”
peter kavinsky: “nothing. you gotta trust.”
MY HEART. this was one of my most anticipated films of the year and BOY did it exceed all my expectations. i genuinely loved it, and i’ve never read the book before so everything that happened in the story came as a pleasant surprise to me. i truly enjoyed every minute of it and i can definitely see myself rewatching it…
