“but mostly i hate the way i don’t hate you. not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.”
oh man i’m actually tearing up right now and it’s not only because of that ending or those bloopers, but because i just found one of my new favourite films of all time. yes, i know i’m extremely late to the party and i don’t know why i went this long without watching it either, but i’ve finally seen it now and that’s all that matters. i can honestly say that i didn’t expect to fall in love with it this much and yet here i am! this late 90’s masterpiece officially owns my heart. it genuinely had me immersed from the very start to the very end. i could not take my eyes off the screen, that’s how captivated i was by the story and its characters. i don’t think there was ever a dull moment. it’s the perfect coming of age/romantic comedy in my eyes. the iconic scene where patrick sings “can’t take my eyes off you” to kat, the prom scene where bianca beats up joey after he punches cameron in the face, the heartbreaking poem scene... it was just expertly written overall, and very well casted. i love and miss heath ledger so much, he was such an incredible talent and a beautiful human being that was gone way too soon... rest in peace aussie legend. also young joseph gordon-levitt was so darn precious and i loved his character’s friendship with michael, they were the funniest duo. allison janney was also amazing in her five seconds of screen time and i think i have a newfound love for julia stiles. i’m just so happy this film exists and i’ll probably end up watching it again tomorrow night.
thank you, gil junger.. you’re a true genius 💘
