“if you want true love, this is it. this is real life. it’s not perfect, but it’s real and if you can’t see it then you’re blind.”
so this one HURT. i mean, i had a feeling it would, but oh man.... i don’t think anything could have prepared me for that argument scene in the hotel room. it made me feel so sad and nervous, like i was watching my own parents fight right in front of me, but that just goes to show how honest and realistic it was and how unbelievably convincing ethan & julie are as actors. they’re absolutely phenomenal and i’ve grown such an incredible amount of love and respect for them just from watching these films. i also have a newfound love for richard linklater as a filmmaker and knowing that he was also the brains behind boyhood (2014) & school of rock (2003) gives me more reasons to admire him and his brilliant mind.
anyways, i’m so glad this ended on a somewhat cheerful note because i was actually worried that it wouldn’t and we would never see beyond the fight, but it was such a heartwarming end to a perfect and masterful trilogy.
i seriously cannot express enough how much i adore and appreciate these films. they really take you on a journey of love and connection and for that i’m so happy they exist. they’ve just become so special and dear to me and i definitely intend on watching them all again in the future and buying the criterion collection box set so i can have them with me forever.
on a side note, i recently reached 500 followers on here so thank you guys!! i appreciate it <33
