John Carpenter channels Tsui Hark and Kurt Russel channel John Wayne (tongue firmly in cheek) in this uproarious martial arts adventure / action / comedy. Love and care for the genre oozes from every pore, Russel is a joy to watch and subverts his heroic tropes beautifully and endearingly managing to be an action star despite being a loveable dolt (and he has such great dialogue . Dennis Dun plays straight man and actual hero Wang perfectly (and is really cool). A joy.
