The Double Life of Véronique

The Double Life of Véronique ★★★★½

"All my life I've felt I was in two places at the same time."

For a father, you're always a child. For a teacher, you're always a student. For a lover, you're always the most beautiful thing in the world. For a hater, you're always an enemy. Krzysztof Kieslowski's The Double Life of Veronique is that gaze out of the window that meets the eye of seldom strangers, ones that look like you, and act like you & somehow they make you feel less alone in a world full of people.

The beauty of Kieslowski's film doesn't lie in how conveniently he shows connections between various emotions that a person posses, nor does it lie in the stunning mixture of sadness & happiness that sets onto the face of his characters, nor in the absolutely riveting use of sight and sound; it lies in those unexplained flashes of love, distress & fate that glimmer through dream-like mirages, only to convince you that these are figments of your own life.

The Double Life of Veronique evokes those long lost feelings in your head; ones that make you moan and cry as your sexual desires get fulfilled & your emoting senses get a final touch of clarity.
