shri swaminathan’s review published on Letterboxd:
An absolutely crushing portrayal of coping, with such deliberately quiet ease. Hidetoshi is a force, simply the best male performance of the year, full of subdued internalization and finality, but Toko Miura and especially, Park Yoo-rim, are fantastic. Academy did good nominating this one.
GOATED cigarette acting and scene. How refreshing. There's such a palpability to this thing where you feel what Hamaguchi's characters feel and experience. He sort of takes you on this reflective and cathartic journey, with him behind the wheel, no less akin to the narrative.
Gonna re-read uncle vanya after this. I'll try to write more after that.
