Siegel™’s review published on Letterboxd:
A comedy of joy rather than a comedy of jokes; it isn't so much a movie with people being funny as it is a character study of a man overflowing with conviction and passion whose excitable youthful energy is a joy to watch. Jack Black imbues such enthusiasm into every moment of his performance, taking such full control that when we laugh he is always in on the joke. And it's that mutual delight between character and audience that it's all about: Linklater evokes humor from wholesomeness, letting us down with the characters and lifting us back up with them in triumph and the purity of happiness. Children are happy because they live every moment without evaluating it in the context of every other moment. We are all kids inside, with the ability to fully experience the simple pleasure of life. All it takes is passion.
