From 'I Killed My Mother' in 2009, to 'Mommy' in 2014, Xavier Dolan used to be one of my favourite directors. However, since then, his career has been just a string of disappointments. His films used to contain psychologically complex characters and genuine human emotion, but now, almost nothing seems to work for him anymore. Characters are either bland or simple charicatures, stories are meandering and toothless, and for some reason, he can't even balance tones anymore. His movies might look better than they used to, but it's like he's completely regressing as a film-maker, and it's kinda breaking my heart. This entire movie felt like pointless scenes about nothing, I'm hugely disappointed.
