at one point i could not stop thinking about the line “being there for a child is the most noble thing a toy can do.” and how much it echoes with the meaning behind “dying for the right cause is the most human thing we can do.” in blade runner 2049. the two carry the connotation that helping those who you care deeply about is worth trying. even if that means you have to go through a great ordeal, again and again. what do we, as a species, deserve such warmth and kindness from those who are usually unseen?
toy story 3 gave us the ending we needed. “we” as in adults who have come into the age of realizing the significance of letting go and finding a balance between the past, present, and future. whereas now toy story 4 offers a closure for the ones we often overlook. i will always have a place in my heart for my favorite cowboy, for his heart is always there for the “kids.”
