"I've had one motto which I've always lived by: Dignity. Always, dignity."
Undoubtedly my favorite musical. Just glancing over at the poster makes me smile. So what happens when I watch the movie? Mere words can't describe. This is about as fulfilling and joyous as the cinematic experience can get. Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor, and Debbie Reynolds are a dream team. Every song is delightful, but even more so is how these three performers move through any space that they're in - transforming it into a playground of song and dance. How they roam and shuffle and skip through the kitchen and the house during 'Good Morning' is nothing less than a pinnacle of the art form, and what's one of the more simple numbers. Stanley Donen made plenty of memorable musicals (On the Town, It's Always Fair Weather, The Pajama Game) but none can compare to Singin' in the Rain's stirring combo of Hollywood history and overwhelming melodrama, with unparalleled skill of dance and technique as the foundation.
