The Meg

The Meg

2018 Ranked

Not competent enough to be good nor schlocky enough to be entertaining, The Meg is a chore to watch. It’s not a good film nor an entertainingly bad one. It’s just dreadful, and the fact that it has a PG-13 rating instead of an R rating alone prevents it from potentially going all out. So many poor character/narrative choices that border on laughable, but the film isn’t fun enough on its own to make one laugh. It’s just boring and uneventful. The acting is piss poor, the filmmaking is insipid at best and horrid at worst (the editing alone is just absolute garbage), and the script is one of the worst of the year. Jason Statham occasionally tries to make it work by being Jason Statham, but he unfortunately cannot do much.

Just like this year’s RAMPAGE (even if that was admittedly worse), The Meg doesn’t even have a personality. It’s just a hollow, by the numbers blockbuster that was solely meant to make money. Granted, the Transformers franchise exists just to bring in money, but at least those have personality. A toxic personality, but one nonetheless. The Meg just lacks identity completely. Skip it.
