I really like this messed up film. I really like that general audiences are going in expecting a somewhat regular horror film that they've been told is the scariest movie of the year and ever and whatnot, and what they get for the first 90 mins are WTF moments and for the last 30 it's WTF moments but just louder.
This film is simply bone-chilling, SOUL chilling. On the second turn I saw the drama in it even more, supernatural stuff aside this film destroys in the drama department. With some of the finest acting ever, potent directing, camera movement, fantastic score and sound editing, it makes for great buildup. There's 15 minutes built up to the one and only 'jump' scare in this film, and the reaction my crowd had was absolutely priceless. That right there (plus literally the rest of the runtime) just proves that horror movies can be more than good throwaways, if given to people that KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING.
I all-caps there for a second, sorry I'll lower my voice.
Needed to see it a second time to see all the setups before, and to piece things together. It's all there, you just need to take time and think about it and it'll make sense. I was thinking I might like it even more on the second time, but it's really the same. Folks, a 4 out of 5 star rating is a great film for me still. GRATE.
