    Let's break this down....

Tom is a somewhat shallow but talented man who is actively self-aware and engaged in his chosen profession. This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Certain movies just get under your skin, and this was one from the first time I saw it over 20 years ago. It has the same perfect balance as "Miracle on 34th Street"; every time something threatens to get overwhelmingly goopy or sentimental, Ruth Brady talks about getting 'picked up by a soldier' or Keenan Wynn performs a perfect one-act play about a Bowery drunk. This movie came out the year I turned 30, I lived with my best friend for seven years until she got engaged, and had an on/off with a sexy Jewish dork most of that time.
Anyway, my TOTALLY UNBIASED AND CORRECT opinion is that this rules and they are both luminous. RIP.
