    Certain movies just get under your skin, and this was one from the first time I saw it over 20 years ago. It has the same perfect balance as "Miracle on 34th Street"; every time something threatens to get overwhelmingly goopy or sentimental, Ruth Brady talks about getting 'picked up by a soldier' or Keenan Wynn performs a perfect one-act play about a Bowery drunk. Toss-up as to which is more heart-wrenching: Garland crying out his name when they reunite in Penn Station, or her meltdown in the seedy diner after the wedding ("It was...it was...so...UGLY!")
